Effects of melting down of ice on the climate system

What is the effect of melting down of ice cover in the Arctic Ocean? Is it a negative feedback to the climate system? More CO2 could be absorbed due to the removal of ice cover which used to prevent the contact of air and sea water. As a result, the temperature could decline. Is this true or false?
